NOVA Geoinformatics and Analytics Lab

The Geoinformatics Analytics Lab, with more than 25 years of experience, was founded with the initial purpose of being a technological infrastructure to support the scientific research activity of NOVA IMS.

Currently, with a multidisciplinary team and transversal skills, from distinct areas such as geography, urbanism, geographic information science and systems, environmental engineering, computer science, programming, and design, it is also equipped with specific hardware and software solutions for the respective fields of activity.

Since its foundation, it has participated in more than 100 research and/or cooperation projects with the business and public sectors.

Areas

  • Development of projects in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) area with applications in the environment, sustainability, transportation, and urban studies;
  • Monitoring and development of projects using public participation spatial based surveys;
  • Development of Web Geographic information Systems and project and corporation based spatial data infrastructures;
  • Development of spatial decision support systems.

Mission

Our mission is to address innovation challenges in the Geospatial Data Science domain, by combining Geographic Information technology, Geographic Information Science, Programing and Human interaction to facilitate actionalble innovation solutions for the efficient working of institutional processes.

Objectives

  • Coordination, design, organization, planning, and execution of National and International Research and Development Projects in the field of Geographic Information System;
  • Cooperation with the Business and Public sectors through the elaboration of Projects, Studies, and Technical Assessments;
  • Elaboration and Evaluation of Technical Proposals for participation in Public Bids;
  • Development of actions to promote scientific and technological culture;
  • Dissemination of research results through publications in scientific journals and other publications and conferences;
  • Integration, Orientation, and Training of young researchers;
  • Organization of scientific meetings and seminars of Research and Development.
